Ensuring a safe learning environment for all.
EACMSI is committed to developing the hearts and minds of young people in a nurturing and engaging environment whether on campus or online. Our experience this year has been that students arrive each day filled with joy and eager for whatever the day will bring. The importance of connecting with peers and adults was front and center for all as they emerged from their summer of isolation and this relishing of relationships continues unabated.
The newfound awareness of their good fortune in being able to attend school has created a community in which all members, whether 3 years old or 60, are working together to keep everyone safe. EACMSI students have, once again, defied expectations of what children are capable of.
Unfortunately, campus visitors, including prospective parents, will not be allowed on campus for the foreseeable future. Only EACMSI employees, students, and essential services (i.e. cleaning staff, repair workers) are allowed physically on campus.
Our temporary visitor policy will come as a disappointment to many. It is equally disappointing for us, as parent and community involvement is such a huge part of the energy of EACMSI. It is a necessary sacrifice, however, to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. We will revise this policy as soon as it is safe to do so.
Our Admissions team welcomes your inquiry and would like to invite you to attend one of our Virtual Information Sessions. We look forward to getting to know your family and having a conversation about EACMSI and the admissions process for 2021-22.
Sustaining On-Campus Learning
We continuously monitor various metrics in our community, including new COVID-19 cases, deaths, number hospitalized, and positivity rates. We are in constant conversation with experts who examine this data holistically in an effort to help us make the best decisions for the health of our community. If we need to close our facility during the course of the year due to campus or community infection rates, we provide as much notice as possible to the families we serve. The use of Zoom and Google Classroom makes it possible for us to pivot almost immediately to remote school if necessary for one student, a whole pod, or the entire school. Students are directly taught how to use the technology they will need to be remote thus ensuring they are well prepared for any transition offsite.
We’re on Track with Our Plan
EACMSI reopened our campus on September 8, 2020 with full mitigation procedures in place in response to Covid19. Our reopening plans prioritized the health, safety and well-being of our entire community.
We implemented a small pod model throughout campus, from our youngest at the Primary Level through our eldest in Middle School. Each Pod consists of one teacher and an assistant and ranges between 10 and 17 students depending on the physical size of the classroom space.
Inside the classroom each student has a designated workspace with materials/tools that are not shared with any other student or adult. Acrylic dividers are available in each pod to add flexibility to the set-up of the classroom environment each day and for those who might be sharing a workspace. Each workspace has at least 144 sq. ft. of designated space.
Our students and staff wear masks all day with mask breaks when sitting for lunch. Additionally, our students play outside everyday (as long as the temperature is over 0 degrees F) and eat lunch outside whenever possible.
Each day a parent/guardian answers an electronic Health Screening questionnaire related to COVID-19 exposure. This includes temperature check, travel, and possibility of close contact to an infected individual.
Upon arrival at school either by bus or car, each student is confirmed to be in compliance with our Health Screening requirements. Temperatures are checked again by an adult with a Non-Contact Forehead Thermometer.
Students/teachers/staff who have had a possible COVID-19 exposure, or who feel unwell with COVID-19 symptoms, are moved to the Nurse’s Isolation Room and picked up immediately with instructions on the necessary steps to take in order to return to school.
Because of the overwhelming adherence to these policies by our entire EACMSI community, we have been able to offer on-site schooling seamlessly for the Fall Semester.
Now more than ever, movement and connections to the natural world are necessary for all of us. Our students go outside every day (weather permitting). The EACMSI campus is beautiful: situated high on South Hill, we overlook pastoral fields and Cayuga Lake. Our track, Tea House, labyrinth, pond, playing fields, meadows, gardens, and woods entice children to explore and connect with the natural world and with one another.
