Gratitude: November 26, 2013

“Happiness is gratitude doubled by wonder.”

                                                                              GK. Chesterton

Imagine being greeted with hugs by three different children-all before 9 am!

Imagine receiving emails from parents suggesting articles, websites and other tidbits because they know you are interested in a certain topic, and because they feel a sense of ownership and investment in their child’s school.

Imagine the first child you ever taught to read returning to visit and sharing that she is considering law school and has plans to work in immigration law.

Imagine a student from your very first Primary class returning 18 years later to work in After-School as he considers becoming a teacher.

Imagine a relationship with a parent that is born in conflict but grows into an opportunity for collaboration based on mutual respect.

Imagine working everyday with people who are as essential to your being as kin.

Imagine holding a child through a turbulent tantrum and then, when it’s over, the child turning to you to say, “I love you”.

What you imagine is the world that is EACMSI- my world. This is a world in which I feel my heart sing daily; a world in which I am moved beyond measure on a regular basis; a world in which I am repeatedly humbled by what I witness in others.

Cicero wrote, “a thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all the other virtues.” If so, I am virtuous indeed.

With great appreciation for all who contribute to making The Elizabeth Ann Clune Montessori School of Ithaca a place where hearts sing, best wishes for a soul nourishing holiday,
