Dear Families,

We are thinking of all of you as we navigate these muddy and ever changing waters of life.  First and foremost, we are wishing everyone health and well-being in the safety of your own homes.  We send hearty hellos to the children. We are missing their smiling faces each day and look forward to “seeing” them soon!

Our Junior Level team has been working together (while social distancing!) to create an engaging, educational experience for each of our children during the time that we must remain apart.  We recognize that time away from school can lead to regression and loss of skills in students, something we definitely want to avoid. Our creative juices are flowing as we think outside the box to have an educational experience that is still influenced by our Montessori philosophy.    We have combined regular practice of math and language skills on paper and the computer with lessons and activities that involve hands-on work with materials found at home. And of course we hope you are reading together and individually, as always.

We have designed a plan for the next two weeks leading us up to our spring break.  We will “meet” first thing in the morning each day to connect with one another. After our meeting, we will have time in el barrio de Angela or with Anne for wellness chats.  The rest of the morning will be dedicated to language and math work, on and off the computer, with the exception of Wednesdays when we will be going on virtual field trips together!  Following lunch and recess time, we will gather again for centering and a story, lesson time, music, art, and sewing. Time will be allotted for calls from teachers with parents. We will be in touch with details on that.

Our schedule will be shared with all families.  You will receive online invitations to join us for morning meetings, lessons, and virtual field trips. You have links to language and math work online.  We want to emphasize that this schedule is offered as a framework for your day. We invite you to engage with us as much and as often as you like and however works for your family.

We hope these offerings help us maintain connection and further our children’s learning during this unusual time.  We encourage you and the children to reach out to the teachers with questions, concerns and hellos via email.

What’s in the bag?

  • A schedule of our weekly plan starting on March 23rd.
  • A handwriting workbook
  • An Explode the Code workbook for spelling and reading practice
  • A Week 1 lesson packet that will be used in conjunction with our lessons online at 2pm

  • An activity packet with mindfulness and art work
  • A sewing packet from Cindy
  • A Top Secret folder to be opened March 30th at 2pm.
